Geographic Search

Thursday , 10, April 2008

When searching in online databases for scientific papers it is only possible to search for keywords. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to search geographically? You can of course search for geography as keyword but what if you were able to select a certain area (on a globe select an area of interest) and then the search engine goes through all the papers to search for papers which fall within the boundaries of the area you select. You need to index all the papers and create an area of interest (a range of longitude and latitude) per paper. That’s a hell of a work I guess, but it would make searching, as a geoscientist, much easier!
